Why I started Ambitious Goals Advocate

For a long time, I was attending IEP meetings without fully understanding what was missing. I knew something felt off—something in the way goals were written, in how support was given (or not), and how expectations didn’t match reality.

Then I discovered the Supreme Court ruling Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District.
Reading it changed everything.

I realized that many schools have been applying the law in ways that fall short. They often expect students to meet grade-level standards—but without providing the tailored supports or meaningful goals needed to get there. The truth is: writing truly ambitious goals—ones that are individualized, measurable, and achievable with the right support—is rare. And yet, that’s exactly what the law requires.

I started this blog to bring clarity, tools, and courage to parents navigating this system. We all deserve to know what’s possible.
